Not all systems are created equal
At Clickware, we know that not all systems are created equal. In fact, most companies have systems that were, at least in part, created by end users (usually non-database professionals or content experts) who just couldn't wait for IS/IT to "get around" to their needs and took matters into their own hands. Or the application could have been created when the needs of the business were very different and then "updated" to meet the current business needs.
While these systems typically started life as a "quick" fix for an immediate need, they tend to grow over time to become functionally mission critical applications. Because these types of systems are typically created by end users (and sometimes outside consultants) these suddenly "critical" systems usually weren't designed to handle the data requirements or user requirements.
Sometimes, if a solution is built in an easy-to-use desktop database product like FileMaker Pro or Access, or Excel, the sheer number of records or complex reporting requirements can bring the system to its knees in terms of performance and productivity.
In a third senario, the existing solution may perform well, but now the requirements have changed and there is a need to integrate data from external systems. This may be as simple as a daily "download" or as complex as full insertions, updates and deletes from the local system as well as the external data source.
If you find yourself in any of the above situations, Clickware can help. We can help you migrate your solution to a transactional SQL backend (such as Sybase iAnywhere, MySQL, Progress, Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle) with a Servoy-based user interface to create client access to the data.
